Makeover Blues

I am trying to give the blog a makeover. I bought this new theme Creative Tape from Multithemes and usually most themes give you an option to change the colour of the links and unfortunately this doesn't have an easy one-click option.

So being the incredibly impulsive and Singaporeanly impatient person that I am, I bravely dove into the unknown world of CSS trying to figure out how to change the colour of links. I've been fiddling and adjusting CSS scripts - without really knowing what I was doing of course. I'm still working on it -
hence the very obvious difference from the sidebar and main body. * The developers have since told me how to change it.

It
really doesn't help that I am a designer by trade and such details irk the hell out of me. Things like font size, alignment, spacing, font colour, link colour, how it should be 2 pixles to the left or 4 pixels to the right, paragraphs in blogs should not be justified unless unusual circumstance. I am a nazi. Creative people usually are control freaks.

I have demands. I want 3 columns in my blog, I wish there are more people designing better themes for
RapidWeaver, I want to have cool designed features like on delicious:days - the most beautiful and well designed blog I've seen.

I wish I could let it go. But I can't and won't rest until I really can't do anything about it. I
obviously need to learn CSS scripting.

Ginger & Honey with Mascarpone Muffins

gingerhoney01

It's my turn! I was planning to bake these on Sunday but I couldn't wait to try out my new toy! I bought a "Heavy Duty" Kitchen Aid yesterday, it was on sale so it was my chance! So happy so happy I can finally try out the more challenging bread recipes that require lots of kneading and successful windowpaning.

Anyway, MUFFINS! The past 2 weeks I've been tossing around in my head what I should make for
Muffin Monday. I've had a few ideas - Kaya (Coconut Jam) or Green Tea with Red Beans... then for some reason I wanted to try Mascarpone cheese (might be from watching Top Chef). So I thought I would use that as my fat content. Then what? What else do I put in it?! Then 2 days later I thought Gingerbread! Not bad idea... but I didn't think Molasses might go with Mascarpone so well, so I used honey instead. But I needed something else, like some kind of chopped nut. A few days later, Pistachios came to me. So the recipe has been floating around my head about a week until today when I actually made it.

The final product was aromatic, moist, spicy and kindda' exotic. I will be experimenting with Mascarpone more in muffins and try to bring the flavour out more next time - perhaps with some fresh berries or something.

The Great Singapore Donut Queue...

donutfactory02

About a month ago I noticed a really long queue in the basement of Raffles City. Something like 25 meters? It's long. Very long. All day long. People were lining up to buy donuts. Donuts?! Seriously? You won't see me in this queue.

Then I read in the papers a few days later about the latest in food trends. Donuts is the newest gaga in Singapore. Everyone was raving about the donuts from the Donut Factory, about how wonderfully light and ungreasy they were and of course the wonderful variety in flavours. Then I got really curious. Really? Ungreasy donuts? I guess I just
have to try one! But I'm not lining up in that 25m long queue.

Introducing Muffin Monday (MM01)

mm

Introducing a brand new food event -
Muffin Monday!

Muffins make the best breakfast and if you're like me -
so important to start the week right with a good cup of coffee and a yummy muffin. The variety of flavours are endless and amazing - sweet ones, savoury ones, sweet and savoury ones, healthy ones, clever and interesting ones and bizarre ones.

Baking muffins are the easiest baking item to make and the fastest. With a basic muffin recipe you can add any ingredient you like. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl, mix wet ingredients in another bowl. Mix wet and dry ingredients together until combined, don't stir
too much, divide batter up into muffin tray and bake! Easy peasy! You can't go too wrong when baking muffins.

It only gets a little more complicated when you start baking english muffins - which in my opinion fall into the category of bread - simply because yeast is used and it requires proofing time.

So here's the fun part!
Create-Your-Own-Muffin with (or without - it's completely up to you) the basic muffin recipe here, or from any other preferred source! Eat it all by yourself or share it with your friends!

Some tips to keep in mind when baking muffins

Meme : Questions about Cooking

I'm late in posting this.

Just over a week ago, I received a request my first
Meme from Brigitte of Küchendunst aus Singapur asking me some questions about cooking. She has a wonderfully delicious blog that is updated very frequently with detailed step-by-step accounts. I applaud her painstaking efforts in updating her blog and love for creating wonderful food for her family and friends. My proof of my admiration for her blog is in the long moments I spend trying to recall german words from my little brain. It's so worth the effort! Her request was forwarded to her by Chili und Ciabatta and I think it began at _rettet das mittagessen.

With my answers you should be able to tell how lazy I am and quite possibly how unhealthy my eating habits are.
